Welcome to Jumping Dog Farm!

We moved here in May 2018. We’ve been since working to plan what will eventually be our small homestead/farm. We have 6 acres currently, and experiment every year with new methods and projects.

Update: In Spring 2023 we started selling chicks more or less accidentally (don’t buy an incubator if you don’t intend to use it, LOL) from our Black Ameraucana breeding flock. We are getting a lot of demand, and are going to be expanding our little flock. Our personal flock is up to 27 chickens, and we are currently building and researching in plans to raise primarily Black Ameraucana, but maybe some other breeds as well.

Why Black Ameraucana? We have had several breeds over the years, and they have been the most hardy free-rangers, provide really pretty light blue eggs, and are less preyed upon by hawks because of their color (apparently hawks and crows are not friends, and hawks think they are really fluffy crows).

Since then I have read a LOT about gardening, chicken raising, and the like. I have gotten a little braver, and am going to try to keep a journal about things I try and what does and does not work. I’m a goof, so there will probably be more about what doesn’t work than what does.

Please comment on any tips or ideas you have, and I will keep you posted (hopefully more regularly than before). This is my hobby, and my labor of love.
